Windpower manoeuvres Wichmann silo vehicles in the tightest of spaces

When the turning circle is small and the axle load is high, truck tyres have to withstand enormous forces. Bernd Specht, Managing Director of the logistics company Wichmann Transporte, found the right tyre for such manoeuvres at Bohnenkamp. He relies on Windpower W series tyres for his short silo vehicles – and is performing really well with them.

Heinrich Wichmann Transporte GmbH, based in Lienen near Osnabrück in Westphalia, is known for its expertise in silo and bulk goods transportation. The fleet has to meet high standards, particularly the company's silo trailers place extreme demands on the tyres. The haulage company is one of the few that uses short silo trailers and can reach loading and unloading destinations that would be inaccessible to long trailers. In tight bends and winding farmyards, Wichmann drivers also have to master tricky turning manoeuvres where every centimetre counts. In such situations, people and materials are required to perform to the absolute maximum.

An ordeal for any tyres

The load on the tyres is particularly evident in the short silos used by Wichmann: the tractor unit's fifth-wheel plate is pushed extremely far back, so that the weight rests on the trailer's three axles. In tight bends, the trailer is almost turned on the spot – an ordeal for any tyres.

'Our tyres have to be able to withstand a lot,' explains Specht.  "They not only have to endure extreme twists and turns but also provide strong protection against cut damage." Thanks to the collaboration with Bohnenkamp and the recommendation of sales experts such as Andreas Abeln and Mark Sobiech, freight forwarder Specht found the perfect solution for his fleet in Windpower tyres.

Windpower truck treads come into their own in demanding regional and long-distance transport.

Where other tyres reach their limits, the Windpower W series shows its strengths. The tyres have been specially developed for application in extreme conditions and are characterised by outstanding wear resistance. Furthermore, the reinforced carcass can provide sufficient resistance to greater shear forces – exactly what Wichmann needs. Whether for regional or national operations, the Windpower W series provides exceptional durability that stands up to even the harshest conditions.

Freight forwarder Bernd Specht relies on WGC08 and WGC28 treads for his silo vehicles.

TheWGC08 is suitable for mixed-use scenarios. It stands out for its reduced heat generation and overcomes challenging surfaces with a rugged tyre shoulder. Overall, the all-position tyre impresses with its high resistance even under tough conditions and in terms of sustainable principles: its carcass is retreadable.

TheWGC28is a genuine construction site tyre of the latest generation. Its strong, hexagonally structured tread provides excellent traction, even on difficult terrain. Designed as a tread for all-wheel drive vehicles in on- and off-road use, the WGC28 resembles a drive tyre and cuts a fine figure on all axle positions – not least thanks to its reinforced carcass to protect against cut damage and tread separation, as well as its excellent self-cleaning properties.

With their outstanding properties, managing director Specht still holds both treads in high esteem, even after tens of thousands of kilometres. Mark Sobiech, Key Account Manager of the Truck & Transport division at Bohnenkamp, is not the only one pleased about this: "With its W series, Windpower has proven itself as a manufacturer and partner that not only understands the challenges in the transport industry but also actively supports it with high-quality products."
